Outreach Now highlights ways Virginia Tech works locally and globally
From the Hahn Horticultural Garden on the Blacksburg campus to war-ravaged villages in Southern Sudan, Virginia Tech faculty and students are using research, education, and economic development to enhance the quality of life for countless people.
The 2009-10 issue of Outreach Now: Networking Opportunities Worldwide illustrates the variety and complexity of the land-grant university’s efforts throughout the commonwealth and around the world.
The magazine, produced by Virginia Tech’s Outreach and International Affairs, includes features on
- The beauty and resources of the Hahn Horticultural Garden;
- K-12 mathematics, science, and nanotechnology education initiatives;
- Asset-based economic development in Virginia;
- Restoration of research, education, and agricultural development in Southern Sudan;
- Construction by architecture students of the first public play park in a Dominican Republic village;
- Virginia Tech’s 21st century art initiatives and a creative collaboration with Bangor University in Wales;
- The new Center for Student Engagement and Community Partnerships; and
- Events for Virginians of all ages at the state’s 4-H educational centers.
