Hokies United to hold remembrance gathering for Heidi Childs, David Metzler at 7 p.m. today
The Virginia Tech group Hokies United will be hold a gathering to remember and celebrate the lives of Heidi Childs and David Metzler on the university's Drillfield tonight, Sept. 3, at 7 p.m.
“Last week our campus lost not only two Virginia Tech students, but two members of our Hokie Family. Whether you knew them very well or not at all, as members of this extraordinary community we have a duty to honor those who were with us all too briefly,” wrote Hokies United members yesterday.
The informal ceremony will take place on Drillfield near the War Memorial Chapel and consistent of a moment of silence and reflection. This ceremony is open to all, and Hokies United members are encouraging every Hokie to join in remembrance. “We hope that with this occasion each person will have an opportunity to pay their respects to our two fallen Hokies,” they added.
Hokies United is a student-driven volunteer effort organized to respond to local, national, and international tragedies that may impact our students and community.
Free parking is available around the Drillfield with a visitor’s pass from 5 p.m.-8 p.m. No pass is necessary on the Drillfield after 8 p.m. or on weekends. Parking is also available in Perry Street Lot 1, 3, 4 and 6 near Prices Fork Road. Find more parking information online or call (540) 231-3200.
