Virginia Tech Recreational Sports to host basketball officiating certification
Love basketball? Want to become more involved with the game? Virginia Tech Recreational Sports is hosting High School Basketball Officiating Certification classes held in the McComas Hall conference room this fall semester.
Classes will be held each Sunday in 142 McComas Hall from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m., Sept. 6 through Nov. 8 and are open to everyone. The price is $5 for Virginia Tech intramural officials, $15 for Virginia Tech students, and $25 for all others.
The classes are taught by Ben Smith, NCAA Women’s Basketball Division I official and coordinator of Virginia Tech Intramural Sports; and Drew Carney, National Federation of State High School (NFHS) Associations (NFHS)-certified official and Intramural Sports graduate assistant.
There will also be guest lectures by Jennifer Rezac, NCAA Women’s Basketball Division I tournament official and assistant director of Intramural Sports at Virginia Tech.
All registrations should be completed and turned in with payment to 142 McComas Hall by Sept. 4 at 5 p.m. If paying by check, it should be made out to “USOA.” Interested individuals should also download the high school registration from the website above, and mail to the address on the registration form also by Sept. 4.
