'Glory Days': A feast of Bruce Springsteen's influence on popular music and American culture
Registration is now open for "Glory Days: A Bruce Springsteen Symposium," a three-day line up of speakers, performances, tributes, tours, and other events.
This is an event for educators, journalists, musicologists, historians, and rock-and-roll fans alike. It’s sure to captivate the mind while providing scholarly insight into the musician’s impact on American culture and popular music, said Mark Bernhard, Virginia Tech director of continuing and professional education, who is organizing the event in partnership with colleagues at The Pennsylvania State University and Monmouth University.
Attendees can spend evenings in the legendary Stone Pony watching performances by bands such as Boccigalupe and The Badboys or Joe Grushecky and The Houserockers, and tour the historical rock-and-roll sites in Asbury Park and Freehold, said Bernhard. The tour of the Springsteen stomping grounds will be lead by the authors of “Rock and Roll Tour of the Jersey Shore.”
“Glory Days” will be held Sept. 25-27, in West Long Branch, N.J., at the Sheraton Eatontown Center and Monmouth University. However, because of the jam-packed agenda including more than 130 presentations for the three-day event, the opening festivities will begin on Sept. 24.
The registration fee is $295 before Aug. 15 and $345 after. Students can register before Aug. 15, for $195 or for $245 after.
An agenda of the event as well as registration information is available online.
