Late Virginia Tech vice president of student affairs honored by National Association of Student Personnel Administrators Foundation
Zenobia Lawrence Hikes, Virginia Tech’s previous vice president of student affairs, was honored posthumously by the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA) Foundation’s as a “Pillar of the Profession” at the 2009 NASPA Annual Conference held in Seattle, Wash., earlier this month.
Hikes was one of 12 student affairs professionals honored with this award. She served as vice president of student affairs from 2005 until her passing in October 2008.
The following is the 2009 class of Pillars of the Profession:

- Zenobia Lawrence Hikes (posthumous) vice president for student affairs; Virginia Tech
- Susan Hunter Hancock, assistant dean and chief financial and administrative officer for the College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences; University of California, Riverside
- Carmen A. Jordan-Cox, vice president for student affairs; Rowan University
- Robert J. Naples, associate vice chancellor for student and campus life and dean of students; University of California, Los Angeles
- Thomas C. Shandley, vice president for student life and dean of students; Davidson College
- Lisa J. Waits, interim superintendent/president; Solano Community College
- Lori White, vice president for student affairs; Southern Methodist University
- Patricia A. Whitely, vice president for student affairs; University of Miami
