The Virginia Tech Board of Visitors will hold its quarterly board meeting at 1:15 p.m. Monday, March 23, in the Board Room of Torgersen Hall (Room 2100) on the Blacksburg campus.

On Sunday, March 22, the full board will meet in open session for a general information session from 2:30 to 4 p.m.in the Solitude Conference Room, and will be followed by a closed session for a briefing with legal counsel related to student matters. The Research Committee will meet in open session from 4 to 5:30 p.m. in the Smithfield Conference Room, both at the Inn at Virginia Tech.

Also that day, the board’s Selection Committee will meet in closed session from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. to interview candidates for the two student representative positions.

The following committee sessions will be held on Monday, March 23 (meetings will be at The Inn at Virginia Tech unless otherwise noted):

  • The Academic Affairs Committee will meet in closed session at 8:30 a.m. and will meet in open session at 9 a.m., both meetings will be in the Drillfield Conference Room.
  • The Buildings and Grounds Committee will meet in closed session at 8 a.m. in the New River Room and will meet in open session at 8:15 a.m. with the Student Affairs and Athletics Committee in the Smithfield Room. At 8:30 a.m., Buildings and Grounds will continue to meet in open session in the Solitude Room and they will join the Finance and Audit Committee in open session at 11:30 a.m. in the Duck Pond Room.
  • The Finance and Audit Committee will meet in closed session at 7:30 a.m. in the 1872 Salon and will meet in open session at 8:30 a.m. in the Duck Pond Room.
  • The Student Affairs and Athletics Committee will meet in open session at 8:30 a.m. in the Smithfield Room.

The board will consider among other items the sale and transfer of land for a new Montgomery County elementary school; new policies including establishment of a new professorial rank, Professor of Practice; approval of overload compensation for A/P faculty who teach; and removal of grant/contract P/I. Because of uncertainty concerning budget reductions and the impact of federal stimulus funding, the board will not address tuition and fees, which is its normal practice at the March board meeting.
