Virginia Tech Golf Course to host leagues and women's golf clinics this spring
Are you looking to get outdoors and have a ball this spring? If so, come out and play in the Virginia Tech Golf Course's five-week golf league.
The Virginia Tech Golf Course will begin hosting a Spring Golf League starting on Monday, March 30. The league will consist of five weeks of 9-hole play each Monday, with tee-off times between 2 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.
The format will consist of teams of two, with a minimum of 10 teams and a maximum of 30 teams. There’s no need to worry if you don’t have a partner, they’ll find one for you. Each week will consist of a different type of play, including a Two-Person Scramble and a Two-Person Best Ball Skins.
The league is open to all Virginia Tech students, faculty, and staff, and to the general public. A team entry fee of $40 is required to be in the league: 100 percent of that money goes to the prize fund. An additional $8 per week (students) or $12 per week (faculty/staff and public) will be needed for greens fees. Prizes will be awarded at the end of the five-week league and will be awarded in the form of gift certificates to the course’s Pro Shop.
Ladies, not quite sure if your golf skills are up to par? Now is your chance to perfect your game! The Virginia Tech Golf Course will also be hosting a Women’s Golf League beginning June 3 and continuing every Wednesday until Aug. 26.
Tee-offs will take place between 2 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. and play is individual. The league is open to all female students, faculty/staff, in addition to the general public. To allow room for flexibility, golfers can pay by the week. Fees are only $15 per week which covers green fees and prizes. Each week will consist of a new type of play such as Most 1 Putts or Most 6’s. Prizes will be awarded monthly in the form of gift certificates for the Pro Shop. PGA Head Professional Chris Lovrine states, “We hope to engage women and help them become familiar with the game of golf, have fun, and enjoy themselves. It’s a way to network and to have fun. We are really trying to emphasize to women that golf is a game of fun and relaxation -- it can be enjoyable and being that it is only women, there is no pressure!”
