Virginia Tech Residence Hall Federation recognized with multiple awards at annual conference
On Feb. 8, 2009, the Virginia Tech Residence Hall Federation took home five awards at the 2009 Virginia Association of College and University Residence Halls (VACURH) conference, held this year at The University of Virginia-Wise, located in Wise, Va.
Among the awards presented to the Virginia Tech Residence Hall Federation were awards for “Most Spirited Delegation,” “Most Philanthropic,” “Best Roll Call,” and two programs that ranked in the top six. The philanthropy award was presented in recognition of the residence hall federation’s efforts in donating 120 children’s books to the University of Virginia-Wise Reading Clinic, as well as for their efforts in making 78 tray liners for donation to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
In addition to the awards, the federation also saw one of its own members, Alessandra Brown, a sophomore majoring in psychology in the College of Science from Virginia Beach, Va., elected to serve in a state board position as the 2009-10 assistant director of affiliations for VACURH.
“As assistant director of affiliations, I will be responsible for recruiting more schools to join VACURH, and I am more than ready for the task,” said Brown “I'm so proud of the leaps and bounds that the [residence hall federation] has taken, and I feel privileged to work with my fellow officers.”
The VACURH conference, which is held annually, is intended to bring together delegates from a variety of university residence hall programs, recognize ongoing achievements, and promote philanthropy and community service.
Members of the Virginia Tech Residence Hall Federation work together to improve residence life and plan, conduct, and promote a variety of activities for the residents of Virginia Tech. This includes loft sales and rentals, campus-wide programs, retreats, and themed events. The federation recruits officers for Hall Council during the first few weeks of school, and information is available in the residence halls at that time.
