Louis W. Sullivan to deliver keynote address for second annual Black Constituency Conference
Virginia Tech's second annual Black Constituency Conference, "Preparing to Lead: Future Leadership in Higher Education, Our Community, and Beyond," will be held Friday, Feb. 20 from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at The Inn at Virginia Tech and Skelton Conference Center.
The conference, coordinated by the Virginia Tech Black Faculty and Staff Caucus and the Office for Equity and Inclusion, is free and open to all members of the university and local community.
Louis W. Sullivan, president and chairman of the Virginia-Nebraska Alliance, president emeritus of Morehouse School of Medicine in Atlanta, Ga., and former secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services is scheduled to be the luncheon keynote speaker.
The luncheon will be a collaborative meeting with the Martin Luther King Living History and Public Policy Center. Following the luncheon, the concurrent breakout sessions will be facilitated by representatives addressing leadership concerns of faculty, staff, and students. The sessions are designed to both inform and prepare participants for future leadership opportunities.
There will be a breakout session designed for networking opportunities with alumni and undergraduate and graduate students as part of a “Legacy Through Leadership” initiative. The closing session will feature Daniel A. Wubah, vice president and dean for undergraduate education. At the conclusion of the conference, a reception will be held at The Inn at Virginia Tech to welcome Wubah to the university.
