Highty-Tighties to perform during inaugural celebration
The Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets Regimental Band, the Highty-Tighties, will perform in the inaugural celebration for President-elect Barack Obama at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C. on Sunday, Jan. 18.
The Presidential Inaugural Committee invited the Highty-Tighties, to participate in this inauguration opening event themed, “We Are One: The Obama Inaugural Celebration at the Lincoln Memorial.” During their performance, the band will march in front of the Lincoln Memorial and play a 20-minute set between 11 a.m. and 12 p.m.
Founded in 1893, the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets Highty-Tighties are the oldest continuously performing musical organization at the university.
Live entertainment during the inaugural celebration will continue through the day and will be televised by HBO on Sunday, Jan. 18 from 7 to 9 p.m. on an open signal. HBO will be working with all its distributors to allow those with access to cable, telcos, or satellite television to view the broadcast for free.
