Recreational Sports to host the seventh Annual Bench Press Competition
If you consider yourself the strongest person in the world, then show of your strength and captivate audiences at the "Built Hokie Tough" main event.
Virginia Tech Recreational Sports, along with sponsor John Wilburn, real estate agent with Prudential Radford and Associates Realtors, will host the seventh Annual Bench Press Competition on Saturday, Feb. 23, at 10 a.m in War Memorial Gym.
This year’s competition will host a men’s open, men’s raw division, ladies open, and a men’s high school open, our newest addition to the bench press competition.
“Due to requests, we wanted to try something new by adding a high school division,” said Ali Arner, assistant director of fitness and assessment. “We want all of our contestants to get pumped up because this is going to be the largest bench press competition yet.”
The bench press competition is open to all Virginia Tech patrons and to the general public. Early online registration is $15 for college students; $20 for Virginia Tech faculty, Virginia Tech staff, and high school students; and $25 for all other participants. There is a $10 fee to register for a second division. Early registration payments must be received by noon on Feb. 22. After that, $5 will be added to the registration entry fees.
Walk-ups are strongly encouraged to compete. Registration forms can be found on the Recreational Sports website. All participants will receive a FREE t-shirt, and there is free spectator-admission for all Hokie fans that want to come out to support the competitors.
Early weigh-in will begin on Friday, Feb. 22, from 4 to 7 p.m. Weigh-in, will also take place on the day of the event from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. All weigh-ins will be held in room 135-A War Memorial Hall. A rules briefing for all competitors will begin at 9:45 a.m. before the meet.
After the competition, each division will award the first through third place winners from each weight class. The strongest male and female competitors will be honored as the “Built Hokie Tough” champions.
