Michael Fowlin presents his acclaimed - You don't know me until you know - me lecture

Michael "Mykee" Fowlin, an actor, psychologist and poet will present his nationwide lecture entitled "You don't know me until you know me" to the Virginia Tech community on Monday, April 9 at 7 p.m. in Litton Reeves Hall, Room 1670. The event is free and open to the public.

This one-person show deals with the issues of race, discrimination, violence prevention, personal identity, suicide, gender equity, homophobia, and the emotional pain felt by special education children. In a gripping, fast-paced performance, Fowlin slips in and out of nine characters, both male and female, who "share their stories" in an often humorous, but at times, heartbreaking manner.

Fowlin's original and powerful presentations, seen by over a million people, bring a heightened awareness of these issues to students, faculty, administrators, and parents, and they suggest solutions. His work has included peer mediation, diversity workshops, violence prevention, and gender sensitivity training.

An actor since the age of 11, Fowlin received his bachelor’s degree from Evangel University in Springfield, Mo. In the spring of 2001, and he later received a doctorate from Rutgers. He transcends "normal" groupings and stereotypes, and lives out his mission of unity. .He currently resides in Morristown, New Jersey.
