Architecture professors to exhibit work at the Visual Arts Center of Richmond
Donna and Robert Dunay, of Blacksburg, Va., professors in Virginia Tech's School of Architecture + Design, College of Architecture and Urban Studies, have been invited to present their work at the Visual Arts Center of Richmond. The exhibition, Time for Design, explores the evolution of design solutions and the intersection of various design disciplines through an in-depth look at intention, concept, process, outcome and client relations.
The installation includes graphic, fashion, interior, industrial design and architecture and also features a series of short video interviews with the participants. The exhibition runs through Dec. 10.
"By focusing on unique, diverse and illuminating examples in our immediate community, the goal is to foster relationship between design and social, economic and political initiatives," said Robert Dunay.
Donna Dunay, A.I.A., is presently chair of the International Archive of Women in Architecture and a professor of architecture. Robert Dunay, A.I.A., is the T. A. Carter Endowed Professor of Architecture and director of industrial design. Donna Dunay has been with Virginia Tech since 1975 and Robert Dunay, since 1976. Both Dunays received their bachelor's and master's degrees in architecture from Virginia Tech.
In conjunction with the exhibition, Donna Dunay will serve on a panel discussion, Cities: A Time for Design with Carol Coletta, on Wed., Nov. 8, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Grace Street Theater, 934 West Grace Street, in Richmond. The panel discussion will focus on the role of design in Richmond's redevelopment. Virginia Commonwealth University President Eugene Trani will make introductory remarks. Carol Coletta, president of CEOs for Cities in Chicago and host of the nationally syndicated public radio show Smart City, will moderate the discussion.
The College of Architecture and Urban Studies is one of the largest of its type in the nation. The college is composed of two schools and the departments of landscape architecture, building construction, and art and art history. The School of Architecture + Design includes programs in architecture, industrial design and interior design. The School of Public and International Affairs includes programs in urban affairs and planning, public administration and policy, and government and international affairs. The college enrolls more than 2,000 students offering 25 degrees taught by 160 faculty members.
