Shultz Dining Center's Nona Gabbert receives corps' thanks

Nona Gabbert, of Blacksburg, senior assistant manager at Shultz Dining Center on the Virginia Tech campus, was recently honored by the university’s corps of cadets for her outstanding service to students and for contributions “above and beyond” the call of duty to their college experience.

Gabbert received a gift certificate to the Boston Beanery restaurant in appreciation of her sincere concern, positive attitude, and unwavering care for Virginia Tech’s cadets.

George Delong, a senior majoring in business information systems in the Pamplin College of Business and corps of cadets' regimental commander, said “She always goes out of her way to make sure the cadets get what they need. She’s always smiling. When we go on our 13-mile marches, she plans and coordinates bag lunches for us. We wanted to recognize her for her outstanding contributions to the corps.”

The Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets has been producing military and corporate leaders since the university was founded in 1872. It is one of just two remaining military corps within a large, primarily civilian university. The corps holds its members to the highest standards of loyalty, honor, integrity, and self-discipline. In return, cadets achieve high academic success and a long-lasting camaraderie with fellow members.
